Colorful Autumn Season at the Craignair Inn

Leaf peepers, grab your dog or your partner, and enjoy the color show! The peak of fall color only lasts for a couple of weeks here in the mid-coast Maine area. The leaves start changing color here just as the crab apple tree up the street starts to drop its apples. Using the Craignair Inn as your base camp, you can see some of the best of Maine’s color change.

Take in spectacular views of Clark Island over breakfast in the dining room or on the newly expanded deck. Explore nature’s amazing fall foliage along the pet-friendly trails of Clark Island or bring your kayak and paddle down Long Cove against the jewel-tones shores.

Area Trails Offer Hiking and Nature at Its Leaf-peeping Best

Hiking is an excellent way to view Maine’s fall foliage in all its glory. Bald Rock Mountain in Camden Hills State Park is about 1,200 feet above sea level and rewards hikers with breathtaking views of Penobscot Bay. The trail is lined on both sides by a variety of tall trees. The hike is 3.5 miles out and back, with 2.5 miles of that being on the multi-use trail. If you’d rather not hike, there is also a motor vehicle road up to the top or there are plenty of other smooth multi-use trails in the park, great for viewing fall foliage by foot or bike.

The Town Forest Trail offers a meandering walk through mature woods along Jones Brook. It links up to the Fort Point Trail that offers a fresh spring to fill your water bottle and a short hike thru mixed woods to the remnants of the historic Fort St. George with stunning views both up and down the St George River.
