A Guest Shares Thoughts About a Memorable Mother-Daughter Visit

The month of May marks the official start of the summer season in Maine and is a wonderful time to visit. Whether you are planning a Mother’s Day trip to spend time with your mom or want to give her the gift of a getaway, this spring is a great time to visit the Midcoast of Maine. The sun is setting later, so there is plenty of time to enjoy a full day of sightseeing with mom and still make it back to dine together on the newly expanded deck to take in the sunset.

“Just returned from a mother and daughter weekend to celebrate the coming of spring at the Craignair Inn, and could not wait a day to send a thank you shout out to owners Lauren and Greg for their gracious hospitality, individual service, and excellent dining experiences. Nestled at the entrance to the Clark Island Nature Preserve, this gem of a traditional Down East Inn has been revised, restored, refreshed with a lovely color palette, and updated to suit all COVID standards. The main dining area (and large new dining deck currently in progress) offers stellar water views and local art. Rooms are cozy, with each having its own personality.

Between my daughter and I, we have traveled most of the world and found the dining experience at the Craignair Inn to be comparable to many of our favorite family-owned inns specializing in locally sourced foods. Just wait until you try those fresh out of the cove oysters and seafoods. We ordered four different excellent appetizers, main courses, and desserts over the weekend and have plans to return to experience the rest of their menu. Ask Greg for wine pairings; he won’t steer you wrong. Greg also surprised us with his stock of rare specialty whiskeys, a lovely way to end an evening. Mother’s Day is this weekend, so do yourself a favor and bring your Mom for a wonderful stay. She will surely be delighted!”

Fun things to do with mom in the Midcoast area:

  • Plan a trip to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and catch the first blush of spring.
  • Enjoy our Mother’s Day brunch at The Causeway with delicious entrees and tempting desserts that are sure to please.
  • Have a unique shopping experience at the Maine State Prison Showroom, where crafts made by the prison inmates are sure to impress. Featuring wooden home furniture, cutting boards, crafts & novelty items all stamped “Hand Crafted at the Maine State Prison.”
  • Reconnect with Mother Nature and each other. Go on a fiddlehead hunt. May is fiddlehead season! Fiddleheads are the still-rolled-up fronds of a baby fern that are harvested and cooked as a vegetable dish. Whether you go foraging for them on your own or let Chef Fernando cook up this delicacy, fiddleheads are a must on your spring trip to Maine!

Whatever you decide to do, The Craignair Inn offers relaxing guest rooms for a restful stay with some of the best local cuisine.
