Here at The Craignair Inn, our top-tier MidCoast Maine hospitality extends beyond our exquisite guest rooms and suites, spread between our historic main building and the Vestry annex. We’re also proud to offer some of the very best wining and dining in the region, courtesy of our Causeway Restaurant and Clark Bar.
Whether you’re overnighting with us or not (you really ought to, naturally), we invite you to sample the impeccable and creative modern coastal cuisine—and reliably refreshing libations—on tap at our Spruce Head, Maine bed and breakfast, a stone’s throw from Clark Island.
No matter where you pull up a seat at The Causeway—the main dining room with its ravishing coastal views, the art gallery with its cozy fireplace, or the year-round outdoor deck overlooking the waterfront—you’re guaranteed MidCoast Maine cuisine (and date-night ambiance) of the finest kind, thanks to Chef Gil and his amazing team.
The Causeway serves dinner from Thursdays to Mondays from 5 to 8:30 PM (in season). The menu marks an inventive spin on New England coastal cookery, drawing on plenty of local ingredients and celebrating the MidCoast’s rich seasonal land-to-sea bounty.
The starters ensure your dinner gets going on exactly the right note, whether you choose local Aphrodite Oysters, bacon-wrapped Moroccan dates, locally sourced charcuterie board, or perhaps the lump Maine crab cakes — including a mouthwatering vegan option.
On the soup-and-salad front, you’ve got everything from traditional classics such as Caesar Salad and Classic Maine Haddock Chowder to delicious unique concoctions such as the Seaweed Salad, anchored by locally grown and harvested kelp.
As far as main courses go, your Craignair Inn dinner might feature anything from Fresh Atlantic Halibut to Mushroom Bolognese, Coffee Marinated Hanger Steak, Brined Duck Breast, or House-Made Summer Gnocchi, just to name a few of the options.
And the whole gastronomic affair comes to a toothsome close with the Causeway gourmet dessert menu, which is comprised of rotating seasonal house-made desserts by award-winning Executive Pastry Chef Michael Hu.
From 10 AM to 2 PM on Sundays, meanwhile, The Causeway serves a decadent and delightful brunch: all manner of Benedicts, Blueberry Pancakes, Burgers, Quinoa Bowls, Waffles, or Haddock Sandwiches, and much more—backed up by your choice of brunch beverages, not least those mixed up at our celebrated build-your-own Bloody Mary bar.
We also regularly host special pairing dinners at The Causeway featuring local breweries, distilleries, and other partners.
Great views and fireside ambiance, meanwhile, await you at the Clark Bar, which serves up such small-plate wonders as local oysters, a charcuterie board, and Crispy Crab Cakes along with sudsy craft brews, specialty cocktails, fine wines, and other hits-the-spot drinks. Eats and drinks are on offer at the Clark Bar Thursday, Friday, and Monday from 4 to 5 PM, Saturday from noon to 5 PM, and Sunday from 2 to 5 PM.
You’ll find one of the most impressive whisky lists in all of Maine at The Craignair Inn, by the way, in case you’re a “water of life” connoisseur…
