If you're looking for a topnotch golf course in Maine, steer your way to The Craignair Inn and explore the MidCoast greens close by!
The rockbound coast of Maine is one of America’s scenic treasures, and you may well be familiar with some of its regional attractions: from the scenic glories of Acadia National Park to the pure culinary bliss of North Atlantic lobster.
What you may not know is that this spectacular seaboard—not least the glorious MidCoast, where our Craignair Inn by the Sea welcomes its guests—is also a thoroughly topnotch place to tee off. Calling our beautiful upscale B&B your home away from home just a stone’s throw from Rockland—one of the MidCoast’s go-to places for dining and much else—you’ll find yourself comfortably positioned near some of the best golf courses in Maine.
Here’s a look at five of these great greens-and-fairways destinations, yours to enjoy while pampered up at our Spruce Head Inn!
If you want to go the 18-hole route, you’re spoiled for choices with two of the top golf courses in Maine’s MidCoast just a hop, skip, and a jump from The Craignair Inn by the Sea...
The long-standing Rockland Golf Club, established back in 1916 (originally as the Knox County Golf Course), is situated right in Rockland—less than a half-hour from your luxurious Craignair Inn accommodations!
This 18-hole course—par 70 for gentlemen, par 73 for ladies—serves up views of the Rockland breakwater and lighthouse as well as Lake Chickiwaukie, making for one marvelous stage for refining your drives, putts, and chips. In 2019, Golf Advisor ranked the Rockland Golf Club second in the running for the best golf course in Maine, and 20th in all of New England.
Rockland Golf Club’s shooting for an April 15th opening this year, so now’s absolutely the time to plan your fairway-focused getaway at our Inn by the Sea…
A mere 20 or so minutes from The Craignair Inn, the Samoset Golf Course is another of the absolute top golf courses in Maine: labeled the “Pebble Beach of the East” last year by Golf Digest, in fact.
This stellar 18-hole course, strung through coastal woods and landscaped gardens, serves up no fewer than seven oceanside holes boasting jaw-dropping sightlines out over Penobscot Bay, among them the signature Hole 4 (the bay and Atlantic backdrop of which often even encompasses basking seals).
The Samoset Golf Course got its start back in 1902 as a nine-hole course, and then was rather magnificently transformed into an 18-hole layout in 1974 by the celebrated Robert Elder. The finishing hole is widely regarded as one of the toughest in all of New England.
The 18-hole roster doesn’t exhaust the possibilities when it comes to golfing as a Craignair Inn guest—not by a long shot!
Delighting golfers since 1965, the Goose River Golf Club awaits your strokes—expert, newbie, or somewhere in between—a mere half-hour or so from The Craignair Inn by the Sea.
“The Goose,” as it’s nicknamed, comes cooled by a sea breeze off Penobscot Bay and delivers far-reaching views, including up to the lovely heights of the Camden Hills.
Situated in Brunswick Landing—formerly the Brunswick Naval Air Station—Mere Creek Golf Club was established in 1958. It still delivers some excellent golfing along the swoony seacoast of Maine, needless to say.
It may be a bit out of the way, but The Causeway Club is very much worth it for any Craignair Inn by the Sea guest under that (admittedly entrancing) spell of golf.
Dating back to 1920, the course delivers its nine-hole pleasures right along Norwood Cove, overlooking Somes Sound and watched over by such noble eminences as Acadia, Flying, and Beech mountains—all within shouting distance of Acadia National Park!
Springtime’s rolling into full gear, and it’s a truly magical time to take in the MidCoast—not least given some of the best Maine golf courses in the vicinity! Book your Craignair Inn getaway today.
